In loving memory of our mother,
Shauneen Antoinette McMeans (Zupan)

Our beloved mother, Shauneen McMeans

15 May 1947 - 16 Nov 2005

Shauneen, a native to the Bay Area, was born an only child to John and Sylvia Palmer. In 1965 she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Howard McMeans (who preceded her passing in 1975) and welcomed two son's; Ralph (Adam) and Dirk shortly thereafter. For more than 23 years Shauneen served the people of California, first at Agnews State Hospital and later at the Department of Social Services. She was a painter, a poet, a humanitarian; and most of all a dedicated and loving Mother and Grandmother. She cherished and loved deeply her three grandbabies, Isabella (3), Luke (14 mo) and Ruby (7 mo); whom loved and brought their Grammy so much joy.

On Saturday, December 10th we celebrated our mother's life with family and friends. We shared memories, laughed, cried and raised our glasses in her honor. We thank the many well wishers for their kind words and consideration; we are comforted in your support.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white

sails to the morning breeze and starts

for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength

I stand and watch her until at length

she hangs like a speck of white cloud

just where the sea and sky come

to mingle with each other

Then someone at my side says;

"There, she is gone!"

"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull

and spar as she was when she left my side

and she is just as able to bear her

load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone

at my side says, "There, she is gone!"

There are other eyes watching her coming,

and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,

"Here she comes!"

And that is dying

Henry Van Dyke
